A model of stately reserve on the outside, the inside of this house with its confusing maze of spaces was anything but. By applying function to the layout of spaces and graciousness to the design of the rooms, this house was transformed from chaos to order.

BREAKING THROUGH

How do you make a kitchen larger when you can’t build an addition because the house is located in a flood plain?  The answer is to view the available interior space as a resource and use it to your best advantage.

What do you do when the neighborhood is perfect, the street is ideal, but the house needs major work? You transform your traditional home to accommodate contemporary living and to reflect the narrative of its inhabitants' lives.

updating the 70's

A very-Brady-style  addition was tearing this house apart.  A few simple plan moves, a stylistic makeover, and a total transformation was achieved. These layout changes and cosmetic alterations created a space which now blends with and enhances the charm of the existing house.

 

Finding space

Like many houses built in the 1920s, it soon became outdated, cramped and dysfunctional by today’s standards. This project is proof that many times the key to improving the function of a house is to see what can be accomplished by better utilizing the space that already exists.
